We’re going to need every American reading this to stand, face the nearest American flag and hum My Country, ‘Tis of Thee until you reach the very last word of this article. Ladies and gentlemen, we can report to the American people and the world that the Ford Mustang GTD just blazed a trail of freedom all the way up the hill at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
You read correctly. Just days after America celebrated its birthday, the latest version of its most iconic muscle car just charged up a hill on an English manor outside London. We can’t confirm but we’ve heard reports that upon hearing the most powerful Mustang ever made roaring in their direction, all locals wearing red coats immediately fled the scene. You might be able to see the retreat in the video, but if not just trust us on this!
In a proper display of patriotic defiance against the country that tried to force the Townsend Acts on us, the Mustang GTD wore a coat of “Indulgent Blue.” The hue is part of Ford’s Extended Color Palette program which complements the six standard Mustang GTD colors.
Essentially the Extended Color Palette is comprised of “thousands of colors” according to Ford and allows a buyer to essentially create a custom color. The buyer would give an example of the desired color to Ford when ordering their GTD and from there the Mustang GTD concierge team will “do its best” to replicate it.
To make sure it’s on the same page as the buyer a sample of the chosen color will be sent back to the buyer so that they can look at it in person to see if it fits their initial vision. For those who really want something exclusive, buyers can opt for an “Exclusive Extended Color Palette Lock-Out” option for their chosen color. Should this option be chosen, that color will not be available from Ford to any other Mustang GTD buyer. If there’s anything more American than that, we don’t know what it is.
After conquering the 1.2-mile (we don’t say “kilometer” ‘round these parts!) course at Goodwood, the Mustang GTD is set to travel to Germany to slay the Nürburgring by targeting a sub-seven-minute lap of the Nordschleife. If we could, we’d be there with bells on because freedom rings!
